Hello! I have an inherited Datejust that is about 30 years old, I've owned it for the past year. The other day it stopped running out of nowhere. I took it to a nearby official Rolex retailer who said that they weren't even allowed to open the watch up and that it would cost $850 to service through Rolex with a 12-15 week turnaround. After stopping there, I went to an independent jeweler down the block who popped it open and said that it was likely just the spring that needs replacing, though he also saw some potential signs of humidity in the watch.

All that being said, I want to get the watch taken care of the right way as it's extremely important to me, but I don't want to shell out $850 if it's a simple fix. Can anyone recommend a spot in Chicago where it might be worth taking the watch? Should I just pony up and get the authorized service? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
