I was recently gifted my grandfather’s 1680 red submariner. My grandfather wore it fairly frequently, so it has some typical wear. My father kept it in his gun safe for the past couple of decades before gifting it to me. It appears to still function as I noticed the hands began moving during the transport back to my house. As far as I can tell, everything on it seems to be original. However, there is unusual kink in the bracelet near the watch face on both sides that I am unable to straighten with gentle handling. I’ll ask the jewelers what they think about it when I go to get it appraised (needed for my insurance).

My question to you all is concerning possibly servicing it. I do not wish to sell, and I would like to get it back to full functionality if something is found to be wrong with it. What common mistakes do you all see when servicing a piece like this?
