This makes me shake my head.
My parent told me that when they bought their first home in California in 1965, they paid about $15k and were just shocked at how expensive it was. They really had to stretch to make it happen.
They sold that same house in 1973 for $65k and were amazed at how much they got for it. Today, that same house shows $1.3M on Zillow estimate.
They bought a tiny 2ba/1ba house for $100k in 1987. They sold it in 2001 for $200k.
The point is. California coastal real estate has always expensive. At least in the 20th century and beyond.
